Sustainability Practices

OVS takes wide-ranging measures to protect biodiversity, conserve natural resources, combat climate change, reduce waste and water consumption, limit the use of chemicals.

OVS is aware of the heavy environmental impacts caused by a careless and unconscious approach to production. It continues to invest in R&D and innovation to reduce its footprint.

OVS prioritizes more sustainable materials from certified low impact supply chains. However, the majority of its business remains detrimental to the environment.

OVS only uses a medium proportion of organic materials such as organic cotton and hemp or recycled materials such as recycled polyester and regenerated nylon.

It still uses polluting fabrics that are either natural without relevant certifications, such as regular cotton or linen, or synthetic petroleum-based fibers such as polyester, nylon, acrylic, and more.

OVS also uses a small amount of semi-synthetic fibers or regenerated cellulosic fabrics such as Tencel lyocell, modal, acetate, and viscose. Tencel is an eco-friendly fiber made with wood pulp from certified sustainable forests.

OVS publishes a list of all its manufacturers and many of its processing facilities on its corporate website, ovscorporate.it. It aims to improve working conditions with positive effects on local communities.

The 2021 Fashion Transparency Index gave OVS the highest score among 250 of the world's leading fashion brands and retailers. OVS achieved 78% based on how much the group discloses about its social and environmental policies, practices, and impacts.

OVS manufactures its clothes in Turkey and many other East Asian countries where human rights and labor law violations still happen every day.

The Italian clothing retailer shows labor certification standard that ensure good working conditions, health, safety, and other human rights for workers in its supply chain.

OVS has a code of conduct that applies to all its suppliers and subcontractors based on the regulations set by the International Labor Organization (ILO).

OVS assesses compliance with its Code of Conduct by informal visits or third-party audits with or without notice. It works with international and local unions and NGOs to improve the working conditions in its factories.

OVS doesn't use exotic animal skin or fur. But it uses animal hair and angora, as well as leather, wool, silk, and down feathers to manufacture many of its clothing pieces.

These animal-derived materials are cruel and unethical. They also harm the environment by producing greenhouse gases and waste. More sustainable alternatives exist.

Sustainability Goals

OVS has committed to reducing its environmental impact and plans to make 90% of its collections with materials from certified low impact supply chains by 2025.

OVS will source 100% cotton from certified sustainable sources. It aims to reduce its water consumption and make all its jeans using waterless technology by 2025.

By 2025, OVS will eliminate all virgin plastics used in packaging. It plans a 30% increase in used clothing collections.

OVS has committed to decreasing Scope 1, 2 and 3 CO2 emissions by 46% within 2030, target approved by SBTi Science Based Targets initiative.
